Install Calc-X on Android

Calc-X isn't on the Play Store yet, so you install it from a link. It takes about two minutes. Follow the steps below; if your phone shows a warning, find it under Problems and fixes.

Download link (SMS edition)

Open it in Chrome on your Android phone. Only install Calc-X from this link, never from a forwarded file.

Before you start

Install in 6 steps

  1. Open the link in Chrome

Paste the download link into Chrome. If Chrome says File might be harmful, tap Download anyway. Chrome shows this for every app that isn't from the Play Store.

  2. Wait for "Download complete"

Don't tap the file while it's still downloading; a half-downloaded file won't install.

  3. Tap Open

Tap Open on the download message, or go to Files → Downloads and tap Calc-X-SMS.apk.

  4. Allow installs from Chrome (first time only)

If you see For your security, your phone is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source, tap Settings, turn on Allow from this source, then press back.

  5. Tap Install

If Play Protect warns about the app, tap More details → Install anyway. If it says the app was blocked, see Blocked by Play Protect.

  6. Open Calc-X and sign up

Use Continue with Google or your email. The setup asks five quick questions; you can change everything later.

After installing: turn on automatic tracking

  1. Bank SMS

In Calc-X, open Settings → Automatic SMS reading and tap Allow. Android's message says "send and view SMS"; Calc-X can only read, and only bank messages that arrive from now on.

  2. UPI app notifications

Settings → UPI app notifications, then turn on Calc-X in Android's Notification access screen. If the switch is greyed out or says Restricted setting, see Restricted setting.

  3. Keep payment notifications on in your UPI apps

Calc-X can only read a payment notification that your UPI app actually shows. For each app you pay with (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, CRED, super.money, Amazon Pay, your bank's app):

    1. Phone settings → Apps → the UPI app → Notifications → turn on Allow notifications. If it lists types, keep Payments / Transactions / Money received on.
    2. Inside the UPI app, open its settings (usually your profile picture → Settings → Notifications) and keep payment and transaction alerts on.

Silent notifications are fine; the important part is that they aren't turned off. To check it works, make a small payment, then open Calc-X → Settings: under UPI app notifications it shows Last seen: Google Pay, today ….

  4. Let it run in the background

Phone settings → Apps → Calc-X → Battery → Unrestricted (or "No restrictions"), so new SMS are added even when the app is closed.

To update later, open Calc-X → Settings → Check for updates. Updating from inside the app avoids most install problems, so don't re-download it from Chrome or WhatsApp.

Problems and fixes

Tap the message you see.

"File might be harmful" in Chrome

Chrome shows this for every app downloaded outside the Play Store. Tap Download anyway.

"Not allowed to install unknown apps from this source"
  1. Tap Settings on that message.
  2. Turn on Allow from this source for Chrome (or Files, if you opened it from Files).
  3. Press back and tap Install again.

You can turn it off again after installing.

"Blocked by Play Protect" or "Unsafe app blocked"

Google Play Protect in India blocks apps installed from a browser when they ask to read SMS or notifications, which Calc-X needs for automatic tracking. First try More details → Install anyway. If there is no such option:

  1. Open the Play Store → tap your profile picture → Play Protect → ⚙ settings.
  2. Turn off Scan apps with Play Protect.
  3. Install Calc-X.
  4. Turn Play Protect back on straight away.

Only do this for Calc-X from the link above, and switch it back on afterwards.

"App not installed"

Android hides the real reason behind this message. Check these, in order:

  1. Storage: free up at least 300 MB.
  2. Old downloads: in Files → Downloads, delete every Calc-X…apk (including "(1)", "(2)"), then download once more and wait for "Download complete".
  3. A hidden copy: remove any Calc-X in App Clone / Dual Apps / Second Space / Private Safe / Hidden apps or a guest user.
  4. Play Protect: it sometimes blocks silently with this message. Follow Blocked by Play Protect.
  5. An older Calc-X from another source: uninstall it first (your data is safe in your account), then install.
  6. Restart the phone and try again.
"There was a problem parsing the package"

The file is incomplete, or the phone runs Android 6 or older. Delete the file, download it again on Wi-Fi, and wait for "Download complete". On Android 6 or older, use calcx-tau.vercel.app in Chrome instead.

"App conflicts with an existing package"

A different build of Calc-X is already installed. Uninstall it (Settings → Apps → Calc-X → Uninstall), then install again. Your transactions are stored in your account, so log in again and they're all there.

Notification access greyed out, or "Restricted setting"
  1. Phone settings → Apps → Calc-X.
  2. Tap ⋮ (top right) → Allow restricted settings, and confirm with your PIN or fingerprint.
  3. Go back to Calc-X → Settings → UPI app notifications and turn it on again.

Android 13 and newer does this for every app installed from a link.

SMS or UPI payments aren't being added
  • Check both switches are on in Calc-X → Settings. Under UPI app notifications it shows "Last seen" with the latest notification it read.
  • "Last seen" never changes after a UPI payment? That app's notifications are probably off. Turn them on in phone settings → Apps → the UPI app → Notifications, and in the app's own notification settings (see Keep payment notifications on).
  • Set Calc-X's battery use to Unrestricted, and turn off "Pause app activity if unused".
  • Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO: also turn on Autostart for Calc-X.
  • Open Calc-X once: it catches up on anything missed while it was closed.
  • Only messages that arrive after you switch it on are added. For older ones, use Import → bank statement.
Google sign-in shows a "supabase.co" address

That's normal in the test version: it's the address of Calc-X's secure sign-in service. Pick your account to continue.

On the log in screen tap Forgot password?, enter your email and open the link on the same phone.
